What is a lottery?

  • An opportunity to enroll your child in the program even if they are not zoned for Middleton.
  • The lottery is:
    • Random.
    • For kindergarten and first and second grade students.
    • Parents must apply for children to be a part of the lottery.
    • Two lottery categories by language:
      • English / Other Non-Spanish.
      • Spanish.

How to Apply

  • Lottery application window is Jan. 5 - Feb. 8, 2026 for both categories.
  • Lottery application will be available on the Middleton website and CCBOE.com.
  • Lottery will take place on Feb. 11, 2026.
  • Parents will be notified by email on or before Feb. 20, 2026 of acceptance or waitlist, and of the next steps.

Eligibility

  • All students who will be in kindergarten - second grade in school year 2026 - 2027 may apply.
  • Second grade students must meet Spanish proficiency requirements in March 2026 to confirm enrollment.
  • Public and non-public students.
  • Enrolling for school year 2026-2027.
    • Two lottery categories by language.
      • English / Other Non-Spanish.
      • Spanish.

 School Year (SY) 2025-2026

The dual language, two-way immersion program at Arthur Middleton Elementary School opened in SY 2024-2025 for prekindergarten and kindergarten students.  In SY 2025-2026, the program added first grade.  All classrooms in grades prek-grade 1 participate in bilingual education.  Each year, the next grade level will join the program until all grades are in the dual language, two-way immersion program by school year 2029-2030.

50-50 Program

Students in the program spend 50% of their day learning with a Spanish-speaking teacher and 50% of their day learning with an English-speaking teacher.
 

All Core Content

Students will learn each core content (Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies) in both Spanish and English. The language of each content will stay the same for the entire school year, but may change in future grades.
 

Prekindergarten - Grade 5

Dual language, two-way immersion programs last for a minimum of six years, from Kindergarten to grade 5.  Prekindergarten students will benefit from a seven year of bilingual education.
